A. Rasit Karaaslan was born in the central Anatolian city of Kayseri, Turkey. In 1975 he graduated with a degree of Interior Design and Industrial Design from the Fine Arts Academy of Istanbul, today’s Mimar Sinan University. Upon his graduation, he completed numerous interior design projects until 1983 when he founded his own company, MOBI, for furniture production and interior design. From the late 1980’s onwards, he started taking his company to many international furniture shows abroad whereby introducing his unique designs and Turkish craftsmanship to the world. Today, his designs are displayed and sold in the most prestigious locations in more than 15 countries around the globe..
A. Rasit Karaaslan has been invited to lecture and mentor young industrial designers by major universities in Turkey and regularly serves as a jury member for design competitions organized by universities and industrial associations. As a designer, A. Rasit Karaaslan favors the use of natural materials and organic forms within a contemporary aesthetic. With the help of the latest technology, he likes experimenting with and pushing the boundaries of woodworking, creating textures and patterns that are unique to his designs. His Sini coffee table has won the iF Product Design Award in 2009. Brooklyn Sideboard, Coco Lamp and Rosa Dining Room are among his other award-winning designs. The prolific designer showcases his new collection every year in MOBI’s stand in Salone del Mobile International Furniture Fair in Milan.
